The problem with black housing in the 1950's was that when it was dark out, the people had trouble finding the door so they changed and started painting them other colors. Next!!!!! question!!!!!Can anybody tell me something about black housing in 1950? or any site i can get info on it?
Housing was difficult to find in 1950 even for whites. If you wanted to rent an apartment you had to buy the furniture that the former tenant had. If you wanted to rent an apartment you would look for ';apartment for rent, furniture for sale';. Then the government started offering loans for veterans so they could buy a home with a low down payment but non-veterans were out of luck.
Try this site: It's a paper written by a Fla U Professor:

Try looking for a book called ';Sundown Towns';. You should ve able to find it at Amazon. In the early years of HUD, it was a mandate that blacks were excuded from obtaining housing in certain metropolitan cities, towns and communities. For instance 7 Mile %26amp; 8 Mile Detroit. If you saw Eminem's movie 8 Mile. It's the same area. HUD would prevent a builder from developing homes in certain areas if blacks were allowed opportunities to obtain housing in that area.
