Anna's right. During the War of 1812 the ';White House'; was painted white because it was burned by British Troops in 1814. Go here and down to the bottom of the page beneath the pictures.

Yeah. It was called the Whitehouse after we applied a coat of white paint to cover up soot damage caused when the British torched it in 1812. Seriously, it's not a racial thing.
